On September 1, 1948, Byron Chappel became licensed after graduating with a law degree from the University of Texas Law School, following his distinguished South Pacific military service during World War II. He opened a private practice in Lubbock with his father, and the firm was first known as Chappell & Chappell.
For more than 50 years, Chappell practiced criminal law representing clients on the South Plains of Texas and well beyond. In 1989, he was honored as the first inductee into the Lubbock Criminal Defense Lawyers Association Hall of Fame. In 2000, Byron Chappell passed away, but his mark on our firm, the Lubbock community and thousands of clients will always be remembered. That same year, Byron was posthumously honored as Distinguished Senior Lawyer, the Lubbock County Bar Association’s highest award.
